Our Mission

At Braille House, we strive to empower people of all ages who are blind or have low vision through alternative formats.

Why?

For every 100 books a sighted child has access to, a blind child has only five.
Braille reading materials enable vision impaired children and adults to develop their literacy skills, leading to better employment opportunities, independence and social inclusion.

How You Can Make a Difference

There are many ways you can support Braille House and bring the joy of reading to those who need it most.

Workplace Giving

Workplace giving is a simple and tax-effective way to support Braille House. Also known as payroll giving, this allows staff to donate part of their pre-tax salary. Some companies match employees’ donations, doubling their impact. There are three ways you can set up workplace giving:

Goodcompany

Goodcompany enables employees to explore giving opportunities and donate to charities of interest to them.

Good 2 Give

Staff of companies registered with Good2Give can create individual giving accounts, choose a charity and manage their contributions themselves.

Sponsorship

Karma Keg Supported by the Queensland Hotels Association, Stone and Wood and the Paddington, Caxton Street and Normanby Hotels

We value our partners and aim to identify projects that support your objectives.

Each year, we hosted several impactful community engagement events, such as our Braille Literacy Challenge, which depend on sponsorship.

These events provide vision impaired school students to learn and engage with others in the blind and low vision community. Alternatively, if you are interested in launching a new project that supports our work at Braille House, we are happy to discuss options.

Whether you’re a small business or a large corporation, your support will help us reach more people in need.

Create your Own Fundraiser

Do you have a creative idea for a fundraising event you’d like to host?

In the past we’ve had our supporters host bake sales, fitness challenges, trivia nights, and much more. We can support you to start your own fundraiser and help raise vital funds for Braille House.

If you have a unique fundraising idea and/or need guidance, we are here to help. Contact us at 07 3848 5257 or email [email protected]

Join us in sustaining future generations for years to come.

Volunteer

We have an army of volunteers dedicated to bringing the world to the fingertips of blind and low vision individuals. Many of our volunteers are university students, retired professionals, parents and members of the vision impaired community.
