Braille House was recently featured on Channel 7 News Sunnyside and Radio 4BC Drive, after a project to refresh the front facade of the building.
The House is an iconic landmark here in Annerley, Brisbane, and the works drew a lot of attention and interest.
The work was paid for by a generous contribution from the Lord Mayor's Charitable Trust, and involved cleaning the building's roof and repainting the facade and front entryway. The new colours are similar to the old, preserving the House's historic aesthetic, but with a refreshed, modern look.
The team at Dulux also generously offered to donate the paints that were used. We're incredibly grateful to both the Lord Mayor's Charitable Trust and Dulux Australia for making the project possible.
The walls are painted with Dulux Vivid White - bright, fresh and clean, like the feeling of a new beginning.
The trims are Monument - a deep charcoal grey that feels calm, strong and dependable.
Buzz about the painting started in the community as soon as the scaffolding went up, and led to an interview on 4BC Drive. Braille House's makeover sure is a glow-up that's been turning heads. It's also been a great reminder that our mission is ongoing and unforgotten - that as much as the building is old and longstanding, the organisation is of contemporary significance, and the work we do is just as important as ever.
We will continue to empower people of all ages who are blind or have low vision through alternative formats, and look good doing it!
