The Discovery Adventure
Chapter 1. The Beginning!.
Harry is twelve years old and was about to go on a bike ride with his friends Dave, Same and Freddy. The four friends were all going to meet at Marlo Park. That’s where they were going to start their adventure, the adventure that they had been planning for weeks on end.
Harry was the first one to arrive at Marlo Park. The park was quite small as it only had one slide and one red swing.
As Harry waited for his friends to arrive, he sat on the swing and thought about the day ahead. After a while, Sam arrived, then Dave and then Freddy. They were now all excited and ready to start their adventure.
They were going to ride to a mountain, but not just any mountain, Shield Mountain, the biggest one in their town. They were going to try and ride the path called “hike up path” all the way to the top.
“Let’s get going” said Harry and they all started riding, excited to see what the view from the top of Shield Mountain would look like.
Chapter 2. The Adventure Starts.
Eventually the group of friends finally made it to Shield Mountain. They found “Hike up path” and began riding up the mountain.
As they rode, they pushed and peddled their bikes and eventually made it to the first lookout spot. Only Harry and Freddy had been there before, but that time was two years ago, for a boring school trip. They had both forgotten though, what it was really like up there.
The first lookout spot had a beautiful view. They had a quick rest and a look and then kept on riding to the top.
Push and pedal, push and pedal, the four friends kept going as a storm started to creep in.
Chapter 3. The Storm Begins.
The four best friends were starting to get wet as the storm built up. So, they looked for somewhere to wait until the storm had passed. Then Freddy said, “Hey guys, over here.”
Freddy’s keen eye had spotted a small hollowed out, sheltered area under the shelter of a big tree, just off the path, near the cliffs edge. Here was somewhere that they could sit in and wait out the storm in.
Everyone crowded in. Once in, they realized how lucky they were to find shelter so quickly, because there was lightning, thunder, strong wind, heavy rain, and hail all around.
Chapter 4. The Collapse.
As the four friends waited for the storm to pass there was a huge flash of lightning and a loud crack of thunder.
Above them, the big tree came crashing down and landed right in front of them. The tree smashed the cliff edge right off. “Our bikes!” yelled Sam, the bikes were gone, taken out by the tree. “N… n… n… no,” cried Dave. Luckily for the boys though, they were safe and unhurt, but stunned.
Dave remembered his big umbrella that was in his backpack. Now was the time for it. He grabbed it out of his bag and opened it up. They all huddled under the umbrella. The storm was relentless. “Oh n… n… n… no” cried Dave, the umbrella couldn’t take much more. But just as the umbrella was about to break the storm finished.
Chapter 5. The Way Out.
As the boys carefully moved out from what was left of their shelter, they quickly realized that the storm had damaged everything. Trees and tree branches were down everywhere, and the ground was sodden and muddy.
There was no way back to the path, they couldn’t even see the path. They were going to have to walk down through the forest if they wanted to find their way out. The boys set off very carefully, the place now looked so different. It seemed that danger was at every step of the way.
Eventually, after what seemed like hours of struggle, the boys made it back down the mountain. When they emerged out of the forest, they saw that they were at a large river. This was nowhere that any of them had been before, or any of them even knew existed.
To their left they saw what looked like the remains of a very old boat. A very old boat indeed. “It looks like a pirate ship,” said Fredy.
Being the curious teenagers that they were, the boys walked over and started to investigate.
Chapter 6. The Treasure Map
Freddy found a way inside the boat and called out to the others to follow him. Once inside, the boys were amazed, it did look like it a pirate ship. “Over here” screamed Harry excitedly. Freddy, Sam, and Dave all rushed over and couldn’t believe what they were looking at, it was a real-life treasure chest. “Give me a hand to try open it,” said Harry. The boys all pushed and heaved at the chest and then, just like that, it opened. The boys looked at each other in amazement.
“Woo-Hoo” they cheered. Looking in, all the smiles though soon turned to frowns. “It’s empty” said Sam, “I… I… I… I knew it,” said Dave. “No wait” said Freddy, and there, right down in the corner, stashed away was something. Harry carefully reached in and pulled it out. Unfolding it slowly, Harry excitedly said “it’s a map, a treasure map, a real-life treasure map.”
Chapter 7. The Discovery.
“C’mon guys” said Sam “we’ve got a lot of walking to do if we want to find some treasure.” Harry, Dave, and Freddy followed Sam excitedly. As they walked, the friends couldn’t stop talking about the treasures that they would find and what each of them would do with their share.
After two hours of walking, the boys were starting to get tired, and it was also starting to getting late.
Dave, the ever-prepared explorer to be, had packed a small tent with him some snacks and water. After setting up the tent and eating everything that they had, the boys were exhausted. Sleep came quickly and no doubt, dreams of adventures and riches were had by all.
The next morning, they arose early and packed up their camp. Sam was in charge now and he was going to lead them to the treasure.
It wasn’t long before Same found the right spot. “Right here is where we have to dig” said Sam. Off they went, bare hands and all, yelling and screaming, faster and faster. Then all of a sudden Freddy felt something, then Dave, then Harry and then Sam.
Chapter 8. Rich.
They had found it! “Woo-Hoo” they all screamed. The boys kept digging and slowly they revealed that it was in fact a real-life treasure chest.
As the boys dug out the treasure chest, they soon discovered that it was buried on top of another chest. The boys couldn’t believe it. Two chests, two very old treasure chests. One was locked and the other was unlocked. The unlocked chest had another map in it. It was a map of the forest nearby.
Sam easily led them to the spot marked on the map and after the easiest of digging, they found a very old key, the kind of very old key that would unlock a very old treasure chest. The boys raced back to the chests. Sam used the key to unlock the locked chest. “Wow” cried Harry, “whoa!” said Freddy, W.. w… w… we’re rich!” stuttered Dave.
Diamonds, gold coins, emeralds, all sorts of treasures – a real pirates booty was inside. The boys couldn’t believe what they had just found.
Chapter 9. Saved.
It had now been well over twenty-four hours since the boys had started their adventure, and Harry was sure their parents would be worried sick and that they would be out looking for them.
“How do we get home from here” said Harry worriedly. “All this treasure is great and all, how can we get it home, how do we get home?” “Shh, shh, shhh…” said Freddy. In the distance, just faintly, Freddy could hear something, something that he was glad to hear. It was a helicopter!
Dave quickly fumbled in his backpack and pulled out an emergency flare that he had packed with him, and he handed it to Harry.
Harry set off the flare and started to wave it around. Orange smoke filled the air. More than enough orange smoke to be seen from the sky and lead the helicopter to them.
Chapter 10. The End!
The emergency rescue helicopter was out looking for the boy and it easily spotted the smoke from Dave’s flare. “Load up as much treasure as you can everyone, quickly” yelled Harry. “Fill your pockets, everything, grab as much as you can” screamed Sam as the helicopter came closer and closer.
The boys were going to be rescued and they were taking as much of the treasure as they possibly could. One by one they were winched into the rescue helicopter. “F… f… f… finally we’re safe,” said Dave.
“You boys sure are lucky” said Captain John the helicopter pilot. “That was one almighty storm yesterday and I ain’t ever seen anything like it in my time.”
The boys were flown back to town and reunited with their parents, their pockets and bags stuffed with treasures.
This sure was one discovery adventure that they would be talking about for a long time to come.
The end.
